Hebden 22

Helene Whitaker

Andy Dobby, Helene Whitaker and Mark Robinson travelled to Hebden to compete in this tough but picturesque 22-mile on/off road LDWA event that is becoming increasingly popular with fell runners.  Conditions were tough with gale force winds on the tops (especially near Stoodley Pike) and  mud, mud and more glorious mud making forward progress a real challenge.  Andy Dobby was first Harrier home in 6th place overall with a remarkable time of 3:19, an especially good result in view of the poor conditions.  Helene Whitaker was 5th lady overall in 4:06, really picking up towards the latter stages of the race after a checkpoint cuppa gave her wings!  Mark Robinson took a nasty fall at 18 miles, but nonetheless hobbled the last four miles to finish in a very commendable 4:16.   The organisation was superb and the weary trio enjoyed pie and peas at the end in the best LDWA tradition.  Full results here
