Ben at The Anniversary Waltz

Ben at The Anniversary Waltz

26th April:
Ben Grant is actively competing the 2014 British and English fell running championships and after the poor conditions he experienced at Donard (where he placed an unaccustomed 5th in his category), something was required to re-establish his credentials and the Anniversary Waltz provided exactly that platform.  This race takes place in the Lake District’s Newlands Valley, not far outside Keswick and there can be few places in England that are more steeped in fell-running history.  Wordsworth was quite keen on the place too!

The route is an anti-clockwise circuit of the valley, taking in the summits of Robinson, Hindscarth and Dale Head (the last three summits on the Bob Graham Round) before going “round the hump” and traversing High Spy, Maiden Moor and Catbells – a total of 11.5 miles an 3,500ft of altitude.  The race was won by William Neill (U23) of Mercia Fell Runners in 1:40:53, while Ben had a superb race, easily coming home first in the MV60 category and 29th place overall in a time of 1:56:26.  Well done Ben, excellent   Results
