Midweek Madness

June 1, 2014

Tuesday 20th May
The second race of the Harrogate District Summer Race League (HDSRL) was hosted by fellow Harrogate club Nidd Valley Road Runners.  The club had an excellent turnout with over 80 members taking part in the 5-mile race which followed the Nidderdale Greenway in part and dipped down into Nidd Gorge for a midway section.  Harrogate were delighted to secure 5 of the top 10 positions with Mike Burrett coming in first in 28:47, followed by Andy Grant in 29:17 for 2nd place. John Young took 5th in 30:39, followed by Jonny Johnson for 7th in 31:02. Eighth place was earned by U18 Ed Beecher, an up and coming star.  Results

Wednesday 21st May
Saw the final race of the John Carr 5k series, a set of 3 races which took place over three consecutive Wednesday in Esholt.  Mark Jordan was the only Harrier to complete all three and posted some excellent times. On the first run of the series, which was also a Yorkshire Vet championship, the weather was cool, windy and wet whereas the next two events were a total contrast, warm and sunny and ideal running conditions. This contrast is reflected in Mark’s times: 19:21 on 7th May, 18:58 on 14th May and 18:58 on 21st May, a consistency which Mark is sure he could not repeat. All excellent times which earned Mark top spot in the M55 category, and 3rd in the York vets.  Results

Nathan Smith ran the Carlisle City Urban Trail race. Starting at the cathedral and designed to showcase the city’s points of interest the route, the race is approximately 8 miles of relatively flat trail and riverside running.  Nathan finished 12th out of 78 with a time of 56:01.  Results
