Runners Stampede!

June 26, 2014

Sunday 22nd June:
Two Harriers, Richard Willis and Andy Holohan took part in the undulating Pudsey 10k, commenting afterwards what a great event it was. The route, a mix of road and trail, appeared to be either up or down, with hardly any flat sections. On the day, It was a very well-organised event with a big run feel to it. Great results from the chaps on a rather warm day: Richard came 48th in a field of 408 runners in 44:54; Andy was 234th in 58:11.  Results

Darren West was accompanied by his son Dominic for his 28th half marathon this year, this time in Freckleton.  A lovely course with gradual hills, but with temperatures around 24 degrees both Darren and Dominic were beaten by the heat. Dominic crossed the line first in 1:41:07 for 118th position in a field of 660, with dad Darren two places behind in 120th, 11th MV50, in 1:41:40.  Results

Harriers’ Sean Somers kept up his excellent racing form with another 10k race, opting for the Burnley 10k.  Again conditions were warm, and the route hilly but Sean clocked up another sub-60 minutes with 59:29.  Results

Several Harriers supported another great local race, the Staveley Stampede, tempted as much by the lovely post-race bacon butties as by the scenic route. Jonty Bright was first Harrier over the line, and 18th overall, in 41:58 followed by Julian Murray, 24th in 43:12 then Simon Moffatt, 31st in 44:20. Sue Simpson, who also won the 3rd lady prize, was 42nd overall in 46:19. Other results were: Dan Oxtoby, 45th in 47:00; Rob Athey, 48th in 47:12; Nicky Smith, 55th in 48:58; Debbie Dilasser, 83rd in 55:08.  Results

Saturday 21st June:
Angela Barker-Charleton ventured over to Rother Valley near Sheffield on Saturday for the 3 Lakes Classic, a 15 mile race. The route is a real mixture of terrain with hills and woods to run through, 85% of it being off-road.  It was a hot day, with lovely scnerey and Angela was very pleased to finish as 15th lady in a great time of 2:14:28.
