Beyond the County Border …..

October 25, 2014

Sometimes we have members who stray way outside the borders of North Yorkshire in their search for new challenges and here is a superb example:  Andrew Grant targetted the Snowdonia Marathon on Saturday 25th October following an excellent season, this event offers a fantastic and picturesque course but it’s one of the toughest in the UK and very hilly – it starts just outside Llanberis and climbs to the top of Pen y Pass at 1,100ft within a few miles, so hardly a fast start!  It also has a classic “sting in the tail”, with a severe climb between miles 21 to 24, taking the competitor to the top of Bwlch y Groes at 1,200ft before a fast descent back down to Llanberis .  Andrew put in a truly outstanding performance against a very strong field, finishing 7th overall in 2:49:59 and 3rd MV40.

The UKA Fell Relays over the previous weekend probably weren’t the best thing for his taper towards this race (we’re sorry), but you would never have known it – well done Andy!
