The Melmerby 10K has been a mainstay of our racing season for years and it’s great to see that doubts over the race’s future have been resolved and that it looks set to continue. It’s a fast one despite a few sneaky hills thrown into the mix, many Harrogate Harriers claim their 10K PB here, it’s also fantastic that we can support village road races such as these, they are undoubtedly on the decline and anything that local runners can do to ensure their survival is a good thing.
Lots of Harriers turned up on a hot and humid day, nonetheless some great results ensued: Andy Grant put in a superb run to finish 4th overall in a speedy 34:21, while Andy Dobby took 6th in 34:59 and Barry McGuire 8th in 35:22. This meant, of course, that our guys easily scooped the team prize and deservedly so. Our ladies did similarly well, Lorraine Mitchell ran a PB of 37:59 to finish 2nd lady overall, she reports an incredibly fast start – well under 5.30 for the first mile – meaning she went through 5K in a PB time of 18:34 then held on for her excellent finishing time. Ros Moore and Sarah Gill finished in 42:54 and 42:55 respectively, this meant that they also took the ladies team prize, so a great day for the club! Results
