Almscliff Crag Handicap Race - 19 October 2008
Sunday, 19 October 2008 - Nineteen Harrogate Harriers and ten Harrogate NOVA cyclists gathered to race for the team trophy. Runners were released in handicap fashion and had to find the quickest way from Castle Hill to the Almscliff Crag and back using public footpaths, bridal-ways and roads. Cyclists were relegated to the road, except for a short dash up the Crag and back at the half-way point. For the second year in a row the Harrogate Harriers and Athletic Club won the Almscliff Crag Trophy, first established in 1972. Below are the results in order of handicap finish.

The Harrier scoring team consisted of Chris, Ian, Dave and Brian! Their combined time is 225 minutes, 34 seconds and beats the top four bike time of 230 minutes, 6 seconds, (when the 78 minute, 5 second 2007 handicap is applied). This race was a success thanks to great participation on and off the course. Hats off to Rona and Steve Bradley for officiating the turn-around atop the windy crag, to Jane Robbins for tending the bar, to Sam Flint-Caton for provisioning the bread and dining supplies, to Margret Caswell for making marvelous soup and supplying the tea, coffee, and biscuits, to Andy for rescuing a lost Zoe and anyone else I failed to mention! Thanks also to Harrogate Harriers for funding the prizes for this event.

3. Oatlands Club 1st Vet over 40 Sheild goes to Ian Rowbotham.
4. Ian Geldert Most Improved Shield goes to Jane Rowbotham who
improved 6 minutes, 54 seconds from 2007!
5. Team Crag Trophy goest to HH&AC!
