The 43rd running of the annual Almscliffe Handicap between us (the Runners) and Harrogate Nova (the Riders) takes place on Sunday 22nd October at 10.00a.m.

For those new to the club, this is how it works: The first runner starts from The Ken Moore bench on Whiney Lane and runs any legal way to the crag, collects a token from someone standing on the hillside then runs back to the bench again via any legal way they wish. The slowest runner starts first and the fastest last, so in theory everyone arrives back together.

The riders start at 10.30a.m. and have to stick to the roads, but they do have to run up the hill to collect a token.

When everyone is back we will go down to The Squinting Cat where bacon/sausage sandwiches will be served, work out the times and announce the winners.  There are actually three races here: The fastest rider, the first runner back and then by adding the four fastest times of the Runners and Riders then applying the handicap it’s either the riders or the runners that win the Crag Trophy, which last year was won by the Riders. If you wish to take part in this competitive social event with a long history behind it, please let me know and I will work out your handicap.
