Track Awareness Run – Directions for Parents & Runners

PLEASE NOTE: THE TRACK AWARENESS RUN IS A CLUB/SOCIAL RUN THAT IS TAKING PLACE ON PUBLIC ACCESS LAND, IT IS NOT A RACE AND IS NOT MARSHALLED, NOR IS THERE ANY PROVISION MADE FOR SUPPORT (REFRESHMENTS ETC) ENROUTE.  YOU TAKE PART AT YOUR OWN RISK AND ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS,  PLEASE CONTACT TONY ESSEX on 01423 887083 or 07899 700603

  • You can join the run at any of the eleven designated drop-off points, you most certainly do not have to run the whole route!  The key thing is participation
  • Please try and arrange to meet up with others, there is safety in numbers
  • Senior runners – please keep an eye on any younger member, especially if they are alone
  • Remember that most of the route is off-road and it will be muddy and slippy.  Off-road shoes are advised
  • It could be very cold, be sure to wear appropriate kit (e.g. gloves, full leg cover, hat) if conditions dictate
  • Please do offer other members lifts back to their cars or starting points
  • Do have some newspaper, old towels (or whatever) to protect your car seats from sweaty and muddy runners
  • Please check the Harrogate Harriers website for the most current information, the club Facebook page and Twitter feed will also display any important news.  Remember, it will be early January and if the weather is bad and we have to cancel, this is where you will find out
  • If you can, please do try and get sponsorship, it spreads the word of what we are trying to achieve.  If  you can’t manage this, please don’t think you can’t join the run –  you most certainly can, the most important thing is to have members out on the course
  • Please DO remember to wear club kit, even if it’s over a jacket – we want to be noticed!
  • Don’t forget this event is not marshalled, so if you can recce the route you plan to run in advance it may be helpful (but not essential)
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you are struggling for any reason
  • It’s not a race, so be careful on the difficult parts of the course and especially when crossing roads

Notes to Parents:

  • Please make sure you have made arrangements to meet your child at a designated drop-off point
  • Make sure your child knows and understands the plan
  • You are very welcome to run/walk with your child
  • Please make sure that you (and/or your child) have the water or food you will need
  • Please don’t allow any junior members to start in front of the seniors who will be running the whole route.  You can find the estimated time of arrival of the faster runners at the various drop in/out points here
