History of Harrogate Harriers and Athletic Club
Harrogate
Harriers & Athletic Club was formed in April 2000 from the amalgamation
of two athletics clubs, Harrogate AC and Imperial AC. Both of the
former clubs enjoyed a substantial amount of success, including
having representatives running at county and national level.
Harrogate AC existed for almost 50 years and wore a black strip. Imperial AC started as a breakaway club from Harrogate AC. It was named after the fruit shop where it met for training sessions. The Imperial AC strip was apple green. Harrogate Harriers & AC Members wear a red, yellow and black club vest.
Since
2000, the Club's membership has risen from around 100. Since the
Club started a few of the club's members have been asked to represent
Yorkshire. Sue Dolan and Ben Grant have represented England in international
fell races. In 2004, Ben won the M55 class of the 4th Masters World
Fell Running Championships held in Italy. Many other individual
and team performances have helped greatly to raise the Club's profile.
A number of the Young Athletes have put in notable performances
in Regional and National Championship events.
Harrogate Harriers and AC is affiliated with the North of England Athletic Association (NoEAA).
