November 29 - Thirsk 10 Miler - The rain didn't slow runners down as 70 of them finished under one hour. First home for the club was Chris Miller in 57.09. Issy Rowe was the first female club finisher in 1:08.39. More club results later - full results from John Schofield's site here.

November 22 - Leeds Abbey Dash - Not sure how Chris Miller can run cross country on Saturday and manage to run 34.39 for 10K the next day, but that's exactly what he did in leading twenty-five Harriers across the finish line at the Leeds Abbey Dash. Chris finished in 73rd place and was followed by Jonty Bright (36.11, 121st) and Richard Hamilton (36.34, 138th). First female finisher for the Harriers was Caroline Turner in 42.35 followed by improving Paula Eastaugh (43.29) and Angela Peace (44.48). 5904 finishers. October 25 - The Great Almscliff Crag Race vs Nova Cyclists

On Sunday, 25 October 2009, fifteen Harrogate Harriers and six Harrogate NOVA cyclists gathered to race for the team trophy and for some good fellowship. Runners were released in handicap fashion and had to find the quickest way from the Ken Moore Memorial bench on Castle Hill to the Almscliff Crag and back using public footpaths, bridal-ways and roads. Cyclists were limited to the roads, except for a short dash on foot up to the Crag and back at the half-way point. For the third year in a row the Harrogate Harriers and Athletic Club won the Almscliff Crag Team Trophy, first established in 1972. The overall series is now set at NOVA with 19 wins, HH&AC with 16 wins.  At right are the results in order of handicap finish, including race times.

The Harrier scoring team consists of Chris, Ashley, Paul and Stephen! Their FAST combined time is 212 minutes, 14 seconds and beats the top four NOVA time of 240 minutes, 38 seconds, (when the 73 minute, 33 second 2008 handicap is applied). Note: The team handicap for the 2010 race is a very small 45 minutes, 9 seconds - a challenge!

This race was a success thanks to great participation on and off the course. Hats off to Emma Bennett, Alex Richens and Glen Mallett for officiating the turn-around atop the windy and wet crag, to Sharon Burns and Jane Robbins for preparing the great post race lunch in the clubhouse, to Wendy Marks for handling the timing, to Margaret Caswell for making marvelous soup and being a great Team NOVA coordinator, and to Steve Marks for sweeping the course for flatted cyclists! Thanks also to the Harrogate Harriers for funding the prizes and thanks to team NOVA for an unexpected financial contribution as well!

Sue Simpson took 8th place in the F45 category with 45.04. Also, Richard Kavanagh (49.09), Paul Baxter (49.18), Emma Bennett (51.04) and Alex Richens (51.43). 798 finishers - Results

From Martyn - "not easy, first 2 - 3 miles uphill and into the wind.  Definitely a negative split from this race!!  John Young came first for Harriers in a pretty fantastic time - a PB for him on a course that is not exactly a fast course..." Well done to all - Results

April 12 - Manx Mountain Marathon (32miles/8000ft) Bruce Dinsmore finished in a time of 6hrs24min to come 24th /92.

April 6 - Podium Finish in Open 5 Adventure Race Series: Bruce Dinsmore claimed a 3rd place finish in the national Open 5 Adventure race series, despite not defending his position in the 5th and final round of the series. Only 3 out of the 5 race results go towards final series score and with this final race clashing with the Derek Jennings/Blubberhouses 25: Bruce opted to do the local run rather than head south to the Peaks again. Great Britain athlete Andy Conn held onto his almost unassailable lead with Dave Hetherington jumping up one place to nudge Bruce down one slot.

April 5 - Derrick Jennings Memorial (formerly Blubberhouses 25 Miler) Another stunning day for some excellent trail running, with bone dry trails allowing some runners to get round in their normal road trainers.  Several Harriers runners were on the start line to get some quality training in for the London Marathon.  At 25miles and over 3000ft of climbing this was an ideal endurance test.  Key results are:
7th Jonti Bright in 3hrs 42mins; 9th Bruce Dinsmore 3hrs 50min; Richard Pennock in 4hrs 21mins (not sure of position); John Richardson and Wendy Marks (5th lady) in 4:32.

March 29 - The Edale Skyline Fell race was run in glorious warm spring sun with a field of 250 runner testing their will against the 21mile/4500ft course. Results and notes of interest are:
Ian Rowbotham: 39th in 3hrs 24mins (Ian decided at checkpoint 8 to take the direct route to the last checkpoint: This involves a 1000ft descent and 1000ft ascent into the valley and back up – all other runners followed the slightly longer edge back and around.  Sadly this pushed Ian from 1st to 3rd in his category).
Dave Tait: 72nd in 3hours 39mins (Dave picked up another podium finish).
Bruce Dinsmore: 81st in 3hrs 44mins (Bruce finishes just 4 seconds inside his target time!).
Adrian Dixon: 182nd in 4hrs 21mins (Adrian has a delayed start of well over 10minutes as his race stuff got locked in the car). Superb organisations on the day by Dark Peak Fell Club

March 29 - Wilmslow Half Marathon - Andy Broekhuizen (1:40:16, 903rd) and Zoe Findlay (2:04:50, 2930) both set PB's at Wilmslow as they prepare for the May 31 Edinburgh Marathon. 3905 finishers - Results
