Lockdown hasn't prevented oprganisers coming upo with virtual challenges to mimic their main events. This weekend saw the VLM's virtual race!
Using inspiration from Elite athletes, a number of Harrogate Harriers completed the Virgin London Marathon virtually on Sunday 4th October, taking in the sites of Harrogate and the surrounding area. Five Harriers in total completed the course, with Sarah Gill finishing in a brilliant 3:26 to come 3rd place in her age category and Theresa Oldroyd smashing out a 3:32. Other Harriers to complete this fantastic achievement were Tracy Illes, Craig Barstow, Debbie Songhurst and Stephen Clegg. An achievement not to be underestimated in the current climate and without the usual race boost to get round.
Over in York, a number of Harriers competed in one of the few road races of the year, the Big Flat Runway Races. Tom Borrowdale was first home for the Harriers in the 10km finishing in 37:58 - 22nd in his age category, closely followed by Geoff Hirst in 41:36. Coralin Harrison represented the ladies in the 10km, finishing first in her age category and in a fantastic time of 1:15:08.
Sarah Gill (mentioned above) completed her virtual marathon as part of this event and was also first in her age category at this event!
